‘Since entering the ALC, I have gained a lot of self-confidence, and I have made many new friends. I really enjoy the classroom environment and the teacher/student ‘alone’ time is invaluable. I desperately needed help in Math and my teacher’s patience and knowledge made learning so much easier. Also, being an adult with children, I felt supported because I can leave if needed. Thanks to my new found skills and self-esteem, I fell more capable to go out and find a great job that I am worthy of! I recently acquired my grade 12 diploma! I am planning to apply to university – my interest is in the field of counseling /social work.’

"I joined the LBS program in order to attend Northern College so I could pursue a career in dog grooming. It's been a goal of mine for a couple of years. This career choice will make me independent. Down the road, I would like to open my own shop".
-D.R - Student "This program has helped me a lot with my self-esteem and to help fill in the gaps that I missed as a child in order to accomplish my goal of getting my diploma and beyond. For without that stepping stone, I would surely get frustrated and quit myself."

“ I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I went to the Centre. I knew it was time for me to get some help, and the staff made me feel comfortable right away. They explained things so I could understand, and that helped me to not be so nervous when I had my assessment. I’ve been working with my tutor over this past year, and I like what I’m doing. She explains things and they make sense to me. The Adult Learning Centre has given me the confidence to see that ‘I can learn’. I guess it’s never too late."

"Five strengths and benefits from the small group class at the IFALC Cochrane:
✓ One on one time with the teacher ✓ The classes are kept small so that all the students needs are met ✓ Relaxed atmosphere that makes participants comfortable about learning ✓ You feel like you're part of the community ✓ You’re respected as a person!" - Anonymous. Student |
“When I started, I really did not feel comfortable going back to school after 18 years. After a couple of weeks and getting to know the staff and some students, I felt better about myself.
What the Centre did for me was helped me to help my son with his homework, and to have more patience to try and understand the work. To me, I fell that the Centre helped me to ‘refresh my memory’. I understand more now than I did in high school, being one on one with my instructor. Thank you for being there for me emotionally, and education wise”. - Lucie |
